In a ceremony on December 8, the Grin 'n' Square It club was proud to announce the 2007 Square Dancers of the Year... Pat and Randy Thorpe
They were Class Chairmen in 1994 and have attended classes as Angels each year almost every week since 1993. In 1995-1996 they were club president and first lady, becoming Publicity Chairs in 1996-1997. From 1997 to the present, they have been President and First Lady of their club. They also have been Chairpersons of the 2002 and 2006 WDSA Jamboree. They supported the 2001 Nationals by participating in the Fashion Show Committee. They have also been on many state leadership panels. They will serve the 2009 Nationals on the Service Committee as Directors of Halls and Buildings. This couple has assumed a leadership role for a WSDA club for a decade and a half. They can always be counted on to listen to interests of the club members and promote the desires of the club. They promote and attend almost all club visitations and often car pool to encourage attendance by other members. They enthusatically fill squares and always make an effort to dance in different squares and be friendly to all. They are continously searching for new opportunities to promote the club and square dancing. This couple is frequently noted to be in squares with new dancers providing them support and encouragement. They handle all logistics for hall rental and scheduling as well as contacting and contracting the callers for the monthly dances as well as the classes. Outside of square dancing activities: Pat and Randy (he’s a second generation Square dancer) met while square dancing, fell in love and married. Both work full-time. He is a supervisor in the programming dept for a large manufacturing company in Los Angeles. She is a Manager in Disability management services for a major public utility. He enjoys Barbershop Harmony singing, and is the Assistant Director of an award-winning chorus as well as singing in a popular quartet. They both enjoy golf and RV camping as well as entertaining and spending time with Family and Friends. He’s a championship Accordionist, she‘s an award-winning water skier. |
